Our endless summer days are truly unique and an incredible experience. While the sun is not up for literally 24 hours a day, it will feel like it. In fact, by summer solstice on June 21, the sun is up at Tukto Lodge for 21.8 hours a day. By September, three short months later, we're down to 12 hours of sun.

Naturalists will have the opportunity to see Arctic hares, wolves, and fearless caribou, which have been photographed as close as twenty feet from our camp! In fact, the Beverly Lake caribou herd, which number more than 200,000, migrate past our Mosquito Lake location. On Dubawnt Lake and Mosquito Lake, the muskox herd totals 200 of these majestic animals.

Birdwatchers can spot peregrine falcons in their nearby rock-top nesting areas, as well as bald and golden eagles, Arctic loons and a wide variety of other species that call the Arctic home. The summer months are excellent viewing times as many of these migrant birds are returning to nest in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut terrain.

The ultimate Arctic wilderness experience at Tukto Lodge doesn't end with the beautiful landscapes and fascinating wildlife. Many of our guests come from around the globe to see the phenomenon of the northern lights alone! If a performance of the dancing northern lights is on your bucket list, we recommend booking your trip to Tukto Lodge between mid to late August, when there are less hours of sunlight in the day. The ethereal colours of green, blue and purple swirl, arc, shimmer and sway in an indescribable way. These mystical and ephemeral lights will awaken your senses and stir your soul.
